At Barnacre Road Primary School, we use Read Write Inc Phonics (RWI) to give your child the best possible start with their literacy.
Read Write Inc. is a popular phonics scheme which teaches children the sounds in English, the letters that represent them, and how to form the letters when writing. Read Write Inc. Phonics includes reading books written using only the letters they have learnt at each level (and a small number of separately taught tricky words). The children will quickly feel confident and successful.
The aim of this scheme is that all children will learn to read fluently and at speed so they can focus on developing their skills in comprehension, vocabulary and spelling. The programme is designed for children aged 4-7. However, at Barnacre, we begin the programme in Nursery and will continue teaching RWI to children beyond the age of 7 if they still need support in their reading.
