Working Hard, Trying our Best, Having Fun

Admissions

We welcome visitors and prospective parents at any time, but ask that an appointment be made with the head teacher. Our school has a Foundation Stage, currently welcoming children from age 2 (age 2 pupils must have reached their second birthday by 31 December 2023) . Our Foundation Stage comprises of our Owlets class (2-3 year olds), Nursery (3 - 4 year olds) and Reception Class. We are a one form entry primary school, with one class per year group throughout school.

For Owlets and Nursery places you apply directly to school. All children can have 15 hours of free Nursery education the term after their third birthday, with an option of parents paying for an additional 15 hours full time. Some three year olds will be eligible for 30 hours free childcare. Some two year olds will be eligible for 15 hours free childcare. Please contact the school office for more information about childcare offers and finding out about your eligibility.

Reception class places are on a full time basis. For Reception class places you need to apply online to Lancashire County Council by the 15th January prior to starting the following September:

Information for Parents Applying for Primary and Secondary Places September 2024

Applying for place at our school during the school year (In-Year Admissions)

In Year Admissions are admissions to school that take place outside the normal admissions rounds (i.e. Reception and Year 7)

If you are new to the area and require a school place or if you already reside in the area and you want to move your child from their current local school to our school, your application should be made directly to our school and the child will be admitted where there are available places.

To apply for a place, complete our In-Year Admissions form above and return to bursar@longridge.lancs.sch.uk

If you have any questions in relation to in-year admissions, please contact us either by email bursar@longridge.lancs.sch.uk or by phone on 01772 783555.

You may ring the school office to confirm that the form has been received.

Your application will be acknowledged upon receipt and we will advise you of the outcome within a maximum of 15 school days.

Where places are available, but we have more applications than places, the published oversubscription criteria will be applied, to ensure the correct child/children are offered the places.

If there are no places available, the child will be added to the waiting list and you have the right of appeal. Please see below for appeal information. Please note, that the waiting list does NOT guarantee a place at our school and if your child is currently not in education you should either make an appeal to our school and/or apply for a place at an alternative school.

Further information on how to apply for a local school can be found on the Lancashire County Council website: https://www.lancashire.gov.uk/children-education-families/schools/apply-for-a-school-place/changing-schools-during-the-school-year

Admissions to Nursery

You are welcome to apply for a place in our Nursery once your child has reached his/her first birthday. Currently we are accepting pupils who were age 2 or older on 31 December 2023. You may take up your place in several ways- through receipt of government funding for some 2 year old’s (if you have an entitlement) or through payment for your 2 year old child to attend.

All 3 and 4 year old children are entitled to 15 hours universal entitlement per week from the term after their third birthday. This entitlement may be taken flexibly over 5 mornings, 5 afternoons or by using the entitlement over 2.5 full days. The 15 hour universal entitlement typically can only be used for core learning sessions and not for breakfast, lunch or teatime sessions.

Parents also have an option of paying for extra sessions over the 15 hours if they wish to do so. This is dependent on availability.

In addition, parents can now also apply for a 30 hour funded place made up of 15 hrs universal and 15 hrs extended. The extended hours can be used for any of the sessions and not just the core learning  sessions.  Please note that if you book a school  lunch for your child, this is charged and billed separately and does not form part of your funded hours. More information can be found:

Childcare Choices | 30 Hours Childcare, Tax-Free Childcare and More | Help with Costs | GOV.UK

We have a minimum booking requirement of 3 core sessions per week for all children.
