At Barnacre Road, our ambitious, exciting English curriculum aims to develop the foundational skills and knowledge of speaking, listening, reading and writing so that our pupils can communicate with a range of audiences and for a range of purposes confidently and coherently. Our curriculum is engaging and enriched with high-quality texts, underpinned by early development of foundational skills via our phonics programme, ReadWriteInc.

We intend for our children to develop as readers and prioritise the development of reading for pleasure as well as for learning. We encourage children to develop the stamina and skills to write at length, using accurate spelling, punctuation and grammar. By the time children leave Barnacre Road, they will be equipped with the literacy and oracy skills to succeed in the next stage of their education and in life beyond.
